![]() By understanding this we are then in a position to start making adjustments with the overall goal in mind. What Is a Guitar Setup?īefore we make our first adjustment it is important to understand what exactly a guitar setup is and what it is we are trying to achieve. With a modest investment in tools and some basic knowledge, you can solve a lot of these things yourself. The good news is that you don’t have to be a pro to address the standard issues. Whether you are an experienced player or a beginner, giving your guitar a set up on a regular basis is an important part of learning to care for and maintain your guitar. High action, stiff action, buzzing frets, dead notes, poor tuning or intonation…they are all symptoms of an instrument that needs a setup. I'm absolutely thrilled with the guitar. There are many reasons your guitar may need a guitar set-up and over my years as a Luthier, I have seen a multitude of issues with both old and new guitars that have not been maintained or set up correctly. But that's all normal stuff and more personal taste than anything else. I did raise the neck pickup a bit to get it to match the output of the bridge pickup. That's pretty much everything I had to do. I had to put on some decent strings to be able to properly intonate. If there is a gauge lighter than super lights, these were it. It did not appear that the saddles had even been touched, as they were quite high and I had to lower them a fair bit as well. It took a while but it now intonates very well and sounds. I had to remove the spring and pull the saddle for the low E and A string as far back as it could possibly go. I had to do a fair bit of filing and add some graphite from a pencil but I finally got it set up so the strings don't bind. It's an absolute steal for the price, even if not on sale. Intended to use it just for a couple of songs, but ended up playing it all night. I actually used the LyxPro Tele for a jam with my bubble neighbors last night. We're about 40 minutes away, but I go into Pointe Claire all the time. I live just outside the west island of Montreal on the Ontario border. For the record, $109 Canadian is about $85 US. ![]() I hit refresh again and the price was back to $179. On impulse I hit 'Purchase' for a mahogany model and moments later received an email confirmation. Suddenly the LyxPro Tele was $109 CDN in all colors. A few hours later, I was looking at the guitar again and they were the same price, when I absentmindedly hit 'refresh' on my web browser. ![]() I decided to hold off and think about it for a couple of hours. Yesterday, while I was looking at both guitars I noticed the natural color of the LyxPro price had dropped to $159. In my search the LyxPro Telecaster also came up and was listed at $179 and appeared to have just been added. The reason I ask is I was intrigued by a thread here recently on the Monoprice Indio Telecaster when it was on sale recently for $79 US, so I looked them up and they were available on Amazon Canada for about $170 Canadian. They were back in stock yesterday and sold out today. They appear to be fairly new on Amazon and go in and out of stock very quickly. Just curious as to whether anyone knows anything about these LyxPro Telecasters. ![]()
